Essendon Coach John Worsfold has spoken of the enjoyment he experienced throughout a series of events before and during the Bombers win over Melbourne.
Around ten thousand fans walked to the ground in unison ahead of the match and when they arrived they watched the current day stars run through a guard of honour featuring heroes from past generations.
“I’m just rapt for the Club, rapt for the supporters who came out today, and the players,” Worsfold said.
“It has been a big day for the Club. I really enjoyed seeing some of the past legends of the Club lining up as the new generation of players ran out.
“Essendon footy Club has an unbelievably great history and it’s got a really bright future.
“It’s our job now to create that.”
Worsfold paid tribute to the players’ ability to remain committed to their preparation through trying circumstances.
“The work and desire the players have shown has been outstanding,” he said.
“We’re not feeling sorry for ourselves and we know we’ve got a massive job ahead of us.
“But it has been tough to get to this point and it’s a really hard earned win.
“We’re going to embrace what we can learn this year and the challenges coming.”
On top of the win over the Demons, the last 24 hours has seen the Bombers secure Heath Hocking for next season, extend its partnership with Kia and land a record breaking apparel deal.
The attendance at the walk - organised by the fans - exceeded expectations, and is another strong indication of their unyielding passion for their football club.
