Zach Merrett has been appointed as the stand in captain for this week’s clash against the Gold Coast Suns. 

He replaces the injured Brendon Goddard who suffered a minor groin strain last week.

The selection comes as further recognition of the outstanding year that the youngster has had in 2016.

In only his third season at the Bombers, Merrett’s work ethic and professionalism saw him elected to the leadership group earlier this year. 

Merrett has played a crucial role in the absence of some of his more mature teammates, averaging 28.9 disposals. 10.3 contested possessions and 6.4 tackles per game.

The 20-year old will become one of the youngest Captains in the Club’s and AFL history.
