Essendon pulled off a dramatic draw against Frankston in gale force conditions at Frankston Oval on Saturday afternoon.
After trailing all day a rushed behind at the 32 minute mark of the final quarter levelled the scores at 8.12 (60).
The Bombers suffered a major blow early in the match with Leroy Jetta leaving the field in the first ten minutes after suffering a heavy tackle from Frankston defender Jake Dermott.
Jetta failed to return to the field for the remainder of the game.
Led brilliantly by captain Ben Duscher out of the middle the Bombers kicked five unanswered goals in the final term, just falling short in the dying stages of the game.
Tayte Pears continued to impress in his second game back from a calf injury collecting 19 disposals playing a mixture of forward and back.
Midfielder Nick O'Brien praised his captains performance post match.
"Every week that we have needed him to step up he has, he wins the contest and every one else was inspired by that," O'Brien said.
"To leave the effort that we had in the last quarter so late was disappointing.
"We shouldn't take so long to ignite that effort, but we were lead by Ben Duscher and now hopefully next week we can start the way we finished today,"
O'Brien said his side was wasteful with opportunities in the first three quarters.
"When you have the wind you still have to be calculated with the way that you go inside 50 brut we were too extreme," he said.
The Bombers come up against ladder leaders next Saturday afternoon at Highgate Reserve.
"We have found we have been competitive against every side so while it is a tough run home we are confident we can match it with most sides."
