Essendon livewire forward Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti has been nominated for the Coates Hire Goal of the Year for his virtuoso effort against Melbourne on Friday night.

Pressed deep in the forward pocket with 20 seconds remaining in the first term, McDonald-Tipungwuti crumbed the pack, fooled Neville Jetta with a shimmy and snapped truly to send the Bomber faithful into raptures.

It was a sign of what was to come for the 25-year-old, who booted another three majors in the Bombers' 18-point win.
