Essendon isn’t reading much in to Werribee’s winless start to the season and is expecting a tough contest when the sides meet at Arden Street on Saturday.

Werribee has lost to Geelong and Footscray this season, while the Bombers opened their account against Collingwood last Sunday.

“I know they’ve had two losses so they’re probably going to come out full of fire and ready to play,” Performance Coach Mark Corrigan said.

“VFL football is a bit volatile from week to week purely because of the changes that can happen from AFL.

“We’ve always had good battles against Werribee in the past and we don’t expect anything different this week.

“They have some quality AFL players and quality VFL listed players, so we know they’ll be a tough opposition.”

After last week’s 80-point win over the Pies, the focus was quickly shifted to the players’ recovery heading into the six-day break.

“Coming off a six day break, it’s really important to make sure the boys are ready to go on Saturday, they’ve been all across that (recovery), so it’s good,” Corrigan said.

“Last week was a really good result. We were a little disappointed with the round one performance, so it’s good to see the boys learn their lesson from that and play a good four quarter performance.”

“The boys understand and are well aware of the style of football we want to play. It’s about being able to carry that out.”
