Josh Green say the Bombers ability to control the ball was critical in the side’s 25-point win over Hawthorn.

The Dons dominated the uncontested marks (128-76) creating an overall edge in disposals (428-324).

The Bombers were also more efficient entering the forward 50, generating a scoring shot 63 per cent of the time compared to Hawthorn’s 46 per cent.

“I think we controlled the ball really well when we needed to and when we needed to ‘go’ we had that pace which we’ve got in the forward line which is starting to mix really well,” Green said.

“The sky is the limit because some of us have only started playing together, so the more we play together the better we’re going to get.”

Green was playing his first game for the Club after spending the first 81 games of his career with Brisbane.

He joined a new look forward line that proved potent.

Orazio Fantasia kicked four goals while Joe Daniher, Cale Hooker and Dyson Heppell booted three.

“It was really exciting to play with Joe and ‘Hooksy’ – I haven’t played with them a whole lot so it has been great,” Green said.

“If three or four of us can chip in with two each it is going to help the workload of Joe.

“It’s exciting we’ve got a few options up there.”

The match had a finals-like atmosphere as the Bombers fans filled the stadium and provided passionate support from the start of the Comeback March until the last player left the stadium after the match.

“It was unbelievable … I guess all of the stuff that has happened kind of brought all of the fans together,” Green said.

“To cap it off with a win certainly gives everyone a bit of hope for the year.

“It’s a good start, we won’t get ahead of ourselves but we showed our best footy is good enough and we’ll just keep rolling on.

“It has been a tough 24 months for the Club with what they’ve been through so I think this is just the start of the journey.

“I’m just rapt to be a part of it.

“We’ll put the head down and get up to Brisbane next week.”
