Essendon and Richmond supporters are encouraged to wave their scarves as Kevin Sheedy walks a lap of honour during the half-time break of tomorrow night’s Dreamtime at the ‘G blockbuster.
A huge crowd of more than 85,000 fans is expected at the MCG tomorrow night, and supporters from both clubs are asked to give one of the game’s greats an ovation he won’t forget.
Sheedy is fan favourite of both clubs having won three premierships with the Tigers before becoming Essendon's longest-serving and its equal most successful Senior Coach (Dick Reynolds also coached four premiership sides).
The lap of honour is to celebrate Sheedy’s recent elevation to Legend status in the Australian Football Hall of Fame, and acknowledge the instrumental role he played in establishing the annual Dreamtime at the ‘G.
Sheedy’s jacket wave following an emotional win over West Coast in Round 16, 1993 is an iconic moment in the game’s history.
The famous post-game celebration established the long-standing tradition of Essendon supporters waving their scarves before and after games.
