Brendon Goddard and the Bombers are "on the same page" in regard to his future, according to coach John Worsfold, but it is unclear if Goddard is happy with the words on the page.
The 33-year-old veteran has made it clear he wants to extend his career into a 17th season after playing 20 games this year.
The two parties talked on Monday and Worsfold said they reached a point of clarity about what 2019 looks like for the 332-game player.
"We're all absolutely on the same page out of that meeting now with where we're heading in terms of our decision making," Worsfold said on Tuesday.
"That will play out in due course."
When asked whether Goddard had been told if it was an end-of-the-season decision, Worsfold declined to elaborate on the specifics of the chat.
"We're all on the same page and you don't need to know when that will be, we do," he said.
The Bombers coach also said there were many elements that went into the call about whether the former Saint would earn another contract.
"It all comes into account, a person's character, their leadership, their on and off-field attributes are definitely taken into account," he said.
The Bombers have this week been linked to contracted Giant Dylan Shiel.
"What's the line everyone says about if you've got A-grade players in the competition?" Worsfold quipped, when asked about Shiel.
"We've got a lot of stuff to do around our list management so there's on-going discussions around what we want to add to our list and potential players that may be available at the end of the year, that's on-going work."
Goddard (knee) and Cale Hooker (knee) will face fitness tests on Thursday, while Adam Saad is on track after recovering from a brutal bump from St Kilda's Nathan Brown on Friday night.
Goddard hyperextended his right knee in the first quarter and didn't return to the field, while Hooker was done after a third quarter incident that injured his right knee.
Neither trained on Tuesday, Saad was put through his paces on the adjacent oval and Kyle Langford (shoulder) ran through the session with the main group.
The newly re-signed Orazio Fantasia was nowhere to be seen after hurting his left hamstring against the Saints. He has already been ruled out of Friday night's clash with Richmond.
Forward Joe Daniher is on a "light week" of training but is unlikely to take part in either of the Bombers' remaining games.
Worsfold said Daniher was still toiling away in the hope of rejoining the main group on the training track.
"I've never said I'm confident [he'll play again this year]," he said.
"Joe's on a program which is a real slow and steady build-up according to how he feels with no specific goal to say he has to get back and play, it's about seeing if he can get back and potentially look like he's able to join in full training.
"It's not about: 'We have to get him back (in) full training by August 30'. There's no timeline on that.
"It's a really specific program of gradual build-up and that's what we're sticking to."
Despite being a game off the seventh and eighth-placed Melbourne and Port Adelaide, and tied on 11 wins with Geelong and North Melbourne, the Bombers remain a mathematical chance to make the finals.
But Worsfold said that wouldn't change their thinking going into Friday night's clash with the competition's pacesetters.
"We've had vital games for the last three months," he said.
"We haven't had much room to muck around so every week, as we get closer to the end of the year, it's been the same scenario for us."
