Mason Fletcher, son of Essendon legend, Dustin Fletcher, will be training with the Bombers at The Hangar until the end of January.

Mason will turn 18 this year, making him a potential father-son prospect for the Club at the 2018 NAB AFL Draft.

The similarities between father and son are obvious. After Mason’s first session at the Club, Michael Hurley, noted the resemblance of the pair.

“I think if you were to get him to shave his head, you would mistake the two.  He’s the same size as his dad, same shape and same attributes,” Hurley said.

“He’s a really great young kid, it’s really exciting to have him around for the next couple of weeks and hopefully he can develop a fair bit while he is here.”

Mason, currently playing at Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup, is 197cm and weighs 75kg.

His dad was drafted by Essendon with pick number three at the end of 1992, and stood at 198cm. Dustin went on to play 400 games with the Bombers, a career spanning over 23 years.

Ken Fletcher, Mason’s grandfather, also played for Essendon between 1967 and 1980.

It will no doubt be an exciting year for the Bombers, as Mason pushes to become the third generation of Fletcher’s to Don the Sash.
