The fixture for week one of the VFL finals has been released, with Essendon facing minor premier Richmond in a qualifying final on Saturday.

It is the fifth consecutive year the VFL Dons have qualified for finals, and the third time this season they will take on the Tigers.

Their most recent encounter came just two weeks ago, when Essendon hosted Richmond at Windy Hill in round 20 and fell two goals short of the win.

The VFL Dons will be hoping for a third time lucky against the Tigers, and looking to bounce back from their 41-point loss to Geelong at the weekend.

The winner of Saturday’s match will progress to the first preliminary final in a fortnight’s time, while the loser will have to face either Werribee or Box Hill in a semi-final.

The first bounce will be at 2:10pm at the Swinburne Centre (Punt Road Oval).

VFL-listed players must have played at least one home-and-away match to be selected during the finals, while AFL-listed players must have played at least six VFL matches and no more than 12 AFL matches to be eligible.
