It'll mark the second AFL-VFL double-header between the two clubs in 2019, with a VFL practice game (4pm) to precede the Bombers' clash with the Cats in the JLT Community Series at GMHBA Stadium (7:10pm) on Thursday.
Essendon had its first VFL practice match of 2019 against Richmond on Saturday, suffering a 13-point loss at Holm Park in Beaconsfield.
Despite holding a 14-point lead at half-time, the Bombers were overrun in sweltering conditions - 9.10 (64) to 7.9 (51).
