Six Bombers have featured in this week’s AFLCA votes following Essendon’s gritty seven-point defeat of Fremantle at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.
Experienced midfielder David Zaharakis led the way with eight votes after a great display saw him gather 32 disposals, six marks, five tackles, five inside 50s and a goal.
Jake Stringer’s efforts both in the forward line and on the ball – where he helped curtail Dockers star Nat Fyfe – were rewarded with five votes. He gathered 17 disposals, 11 contested possessions and a game-high eight inside 50s in the victory.
Onballers Zach Merrett (35 disposals, 13 contested possessions and six tackles), Matt Guelfi (17 disposals at 88.2 per cent efficiency and five one percenters) and Dylan Shiel (25 disposals, 13 contested possessions, five clearances and two goals) were also rewarded.
Michael Hurley rounded out the votes after a dominant display in the backline where he repeatedly repelled Fremantle’s attacks and claimed 23 disposals, nine intercept possessions, seven rebound 50s and seven one percenters.
