Joe Daniher says he’s confident he can overcome the groin troubles that have plagued his past two seasons.
Niggling osteitis pubis has limited the star Don to just 11 games since the start of 2018, but the 25-year-old said he was already feeling the benefits of recent surgery.
“I’m terrific. Physically, I’m going slowly. I’m about eight-and-a-half weeks post-surgery and will hopefully start running in the next fortnight or so,” Daniher told ABC Grandstand.
“I am feeling better. I’ve certainly had an improvement already. I won’t have an answer until I really get going with my hard training again, but all the signs look positive at the moment.
“I’m happy to have a bit of clear air and know we can keep moving forward and set myself up for a lovely, long pre-season.”
After a restricted pre-season, Daniher played his first game of the season in round five, managing another three until a relapse in groin soreness forced him into season-ending surgery.
While it’s the first time the All Australian has had surgery on his groin, Daniher backed the decision to not have it done last year.
“I did contemplate it (surgery at end of last season), but all the advice we got was that it should clear itself up and to avoid surgery as much as you can. Unfortunately, I couldn’t avoid it, so that’s the road we went down.
“I think we’ve covered all bases, and hopefully that (surgery) can do the job.”
