Round two didn't go the way of the Bombers but a number of players still showed positive signs to take into next week's game against Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium.

Zach Merrett

The Captain was outstanding, recording an equal career-high four goals from 36 disposals as his endeavour never tired. Merrett also had six clearances, 12 contested possessions and 748 metres gained.

Elijah Tsatas

Tsatas' strengths and particularly his inside game was on show on Saturday, with the midfielder having 25 disposals, seven centre clearances (from 11 clearances in total) and 14 contested possessions.

Tom Edwards

The debutant's attack on the footy and smart movements inside 50 were evident as soon as he took the field, but it was his first genuine touch of the footy that allowed him to live out a dream.

Getting on the end of one late in the opening term, he executed a neat set shot to record his debut goal with his first career kick on the hallowed turf of the MCG. Edwards finished with three goals in a very promising first taste of AFL action.

Sam Durham

Durham's determination always creates opportunity for Essendon when he's out there.

As usual, the midfielder frequently put his body on the line to finish with 21 disposals (14 of those contested) and seven clearances, continuing his positive start to the year.

Jye Caldwell

Following on from his round one dominance, Caldwell again proved his importance for the Bombers, finishing with 27 touches, six score involvements, six intercept possessions and 11 contested possessions.

The Dons take on Post Adelaide in round three at Marvel Stadium on Thursday Night Footy.
