Emerging winger Saad El-Hawli has signed a one-year extension to remain a Don until at least the end of the 2025 season.

Joining Essendon via pick No.13 in this year’s mid-season draft, the versatile 23-year-old has showcased blistering form in his three VFL games this season and has already added an exciting element to the Bombers’ wing depth in his first months with the club.

Grateful for the opportunity ahead, El-Hawli’s excited to continue elevating his game into 2025 and beyond.

“I’m extremely grateful to be part of such an amazing club," El-Hawli said.

"Everyone has been so welcoming. I can’t wait to get to work and show the dons faithful what I can do.”

El-Hawli’s been a standout in the VFL on either side of an ill-timed ankle injury early in his time with the club, with a 27-disposal, four-goal effort in just his second appearance propelling the side to a comeback win over Carlton at Windy Hill in round 11.

Missing the next nine weeks through injury, El-Hawli made an instant impact upon return in Saturday’s winning VFL effort against the Suns, finishing with 21 touches and 10 score involvements in a damaging display.

GM – AFL Daniel McPherson is thrilled to have El-Hawli on board for next year after a promising start to his AFL journey.

“Saad is a terrific young man and has made a great impression at Essendon since joining us through the mid-season draft. He’s shown great potential in his three VFL games for us this season and we’re excited about his further growth within our AFL environment,” McPherson said.

"Saad is incredibly committed to his football career and shows great appetite to be the best he can be. We’re looking forward to seeing what Saad can do in 2025, with a full AFL pre-season under his belt.”
