Exciting midfielder Jye Caldwell has penned a four-year deal to remain at Essendon until at least the end of 2028.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a career-best season in 2024, elevating his game to new levels as a permanent inside midfielder.

Caldwell joins Kyle Langford, Nic Martin, Sam Durham, Andrew McGrath, Mason Redman, Darcy Parish and Jordan Ridley as key long-term signings for the Bombers.

Essendon’s No.6 couldn’t be prouder to be donning the sash for four more years.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to play football for Essendon and thank the club for the faith they have put in me to continue my career here. I love this club and extremely excited about what we’re building together,” Caldwell said.

"I have huge confidence in the playing group, our coaching staff and the whole club in the direction we are heading to bring consistent on field success in the years to come. We will never stop fighting in our quest to bring success to Essendon.

"It was a no brainer for me to stay and I’m super excited to keep showing the passion in the red and black.”

Traded to Essendon from GWS in 2020, the former pick No.11 has blossomed in Bombers colours.

In his 65 games for the club, Caldwell has earned a reputation as a contested ball winning midfielder with exceptional skills.

In 2024, Caldwell is averaging a career-high 22.5 disposals and 4.3 clearances per game.

This season, Caldwell sits second behind Captain Zach Merrett at Essendon for total clearances (90) and contested possessions (195) and third for total score involvements (122).

The Bendigo product’s pressure around the ball has also been a major highlight of his game, sitting fifth in the AFL for total tackles with 140.

GM of Football Daniel McPherson said the Bombers are delighted to have locked down the services of one of their brightest stars.

“Jye has had a breakout season in 2024 and he is quickly becoming one of the most improved midfielders in the competition. His ruthless drive to win and competitiveness to put in his best performance every week is infectious to the playing group, and we’re delighted he’s recommitted to the Bombers,” McPherson said.

“We know his best footy is in front of him and we’re excited about the growth of our midfield group into the future. Jye is a great young leader and we look forward to him continuing to drive a culture of elite preparation and performance.
