A host of Essendon’s biggest names could be in the frame to return for the Bombers’ round 23 clash with GWS.
Forward Jake Stringer (foot), ruckman Sam Draper (hip) and midfielders Jye Caldwell (hip) and Dylan Shiel (foot) have all been listed as ‘tests’ for Saturday’s fixture.
GM of Performance Daniel McPherson said all players must get through main training without issue to be considered for selection.
“We’re really pleased Jake, Sam, Jye and Dylan are all close to a return, and provided they have a good week, we expect they’ll be pushing to be available for selection,” McPherson said.
“Once we get through main training, we’ll be better placed to make a call on whether or not each of them is ready to go.”
Young forward Tex Wanganeen will miss the rest of the season after suffering a foot complaint.
McPherson said the club will provide a more detailed update once the 19-year-old has consulted external medical staff.
“Tex unfortunately pulled up sore post our round 19 VFL fixture,” McPherson said.
"He had some scans late last week, and will consult a surgeon this week to discuss the best plan of action.”
Further to the news of defender Massimo D’Ambrosio being ruled out for the season last week with a knee injury, the club can confirm the 20-year-old had successful surgery to repair a lateral ligament tear.
