VFL Senior Coach Leigh Tudor walks us through the efforts of our AFL-listed Bombers from the tight loss to Southport.

Kaine Baldwin

28 disposals, 12 marks

Kaine had a really balanced effort, 28 disposals for a key defender is quite amazing really. It’s all off the back of his defensive work, whether he’s cutting across to intercept, backing himself to start our attack, or getting in the right spots to beat his man. He’s playing excellent footy at the moment.

Rhett Montgomerie

18 disposals, 12 marks, one goal

Rhett’s defending so well at the moment, and like the defensive group as a whole has just continued to improve as the year’s gone on. Michael Hurley has done a great job in building a trust amongst the back six, and Rhett is really benefitting from that, especially as an intercept player. We put him forward late after we’d gone down a couple of players, and he fought through some difficult cramping to hit the scoreboard which was a bonus.

Will Setterfield

20 disposals, six marks, five tackles

It was great to see Will back, his experience was really valuable for the team. He ticked off everything he needed to do, showing his strength at the contest, winning some clearances and having an impact running both ways. We’re happy to have him healthy and excited to see him keep building.

Pat Voss

14 disposals, eight marks, three goals

The most impressive thing from ‘Vossy’ has been his work to improve leading up at the ball carrier, which he did really well on the weekend. He looked strong, presented well and kicked well when given his chances. It was an excellent game from him as a key forward.

Lewis Hayes

15 disposals, eight marks, eight rebound 50’s

‘Hayesy’ has been really consistent over the last couple of months. His one-on-one defending is really improving, standing up with some key spoils and holding onto his marks. His rebound game shows that he’s getting more confident to kick off our attack with ball in hand, so he’s having an excellent block at the moment.

Tex Wanganeen

15 disposals, four goals

Southport needed to go pretty hard at him after the first half he played. He was just so explosive, making clever decisions and running to all the right spots, while also winning his own ball as well. His ability to get off the chain and spread allowed him to get on the end of some scoring opportunities, so we loved his game.

Alastair Lord

17 disposals, three marks

This might be one of the best games I’ve seen from ‘Lordy’. His run and carry, his ability to stand up in the contest and assist in our ball movement were all really good. He’s improving in all the areas that we’ve been working on with him, and we were really happy to see it come together on the weekend.

Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti

11 disposals, six inside 50’s, three marks

‘Walla’ played primarily as a higher forward this week, and typically looked really dangerous with his hands on it. He sets us up really well and applied his usual pressure, so we were happy with his efforts.

Anthony Munkara

Seven disposals, five marks, two goals

Anthony got on the board again with two really nice goals, showing what a beautiful kick of the footy he is. He’s starting to show some good signs with his leading patterns and finding space in attacking positions, which has been really promising also.

Cian McBride

Eight disposals, three marks

Cian’s very tough to play on as a defender, and he makes his presence felt down there. You just know he’s going to compete hard for us every week, and I felt he pieced together a pretty consistent game on the last line for us.
