A rundown of the last week for the Bombers.
Five more years of the ‘Red Dog’
Defender Mason Redman turned his back on free agency to ink a fresh five-year deal with the Bombers this week.
The 98-gamer has been a vital contributor to the Dons’ back six in recent seasons and will prove to be an important leader for the club’s young list until at least the end of 2028.
Skipper joins ‘One on One’
On this week’s preview of One on One, Bombers vice-captain Andrew McGrath is joined by his skipper Zach Merrett.

VFL Dons come up short against Gulls
Williamstown pipped Essendon at the post in a thrilling VFL contest at DSV Stadium on Friday night.
The Bombers were headed by strong performances in defence from Massimo D’Ambrosio and Sam Weideman, with Elijah Tsatas fighting through heavy opposition attention to register 23 touches and seven clearances.
Despite the six-point loss, the VFL Dons are enjoying an improved month, looking ahead to a Windy Hill return against Sydney this Sunday at 1:05pm.
Injury update: Ridley ruled out
Defender Jordan Ridley will be out of action until at least the end of the regular season after suffering a quad strain in the final quarter of Friday’s loss to the Dogs.
Forward Jake Stringer will also miss the Dons' clash with Sydney as he overcomes foot soreness.
AFLW pre-season heating up
Essendon’s AFLW side are now entering their third month of pre-season training, edging closer to their September 2 start against Hawthorn.
The team’s fixture will also see them return to Windy Hill this season, opening a new chapter for the club’s historic attachment to the ground.
VFLW Bombers season concludes
Essendon fell to Port Melbourne by 30 points in their VFLW preliminary final on Sunday.
Sophie Molan and Grace Dicker were among the best, while Kendra Heil bid an emotional farewell to teammates after her final VFLW appearance.
After an exciting season with a developing young core of players, there is plenty of reason for optimism around the team’s potential going forward.
