After a busy few days, Essendon stayed on the sidelines on the final day of the AFL trade period.

Throughout the last week, the Bombers have secured deals to trade Jake Carlisle, Jonathan Giles and Jake Melksham to new clubs, while also bolstering their draft position.

List and Recruiting Manager Adrian Dodoro said the Club entered the final day happy with its position.

“We had a quiet day today, we virtually finished our business yesterday,” he said.

“We were in there today, but nothing happened.

“We spoke to a couple of clubs about possibly moving some picks here and there, but nothing came to fruition, we were basically happy with our lot.

“We’ll go in to the draft with a fairly strong hand.”

The Bombers enter next month’s draft with selections 4, 5, 24, 25, 57 and 80.

“The good thing, and we wanted to do it strategically, was to get consecutive picks,” Dodoro said.

“There are no guarantees in drafts but it does make it a little easier.”

As well as securing four picks in the top 25, the Bombers also signed experienced players Matthew Leuenberger and Craig Bird.

“Obviously we wanted to bolster our ruck division and we’ve done that with Matty Leuenberger,” Dodoro said.

“He’s an experienced ruckman and a guy just speaking to him that is hungry to establish himself as one of the premier ruckman in the competition, so that’ll be really exciting for us.

“Craig Bird comes with a wealth of experience.

“He comes from a club that had a lot of inside mids, so we see him as a starting 18 player for us.”
