Essendon could be buoyed by the potential return of key forward Sam Weideman for Tuesday's Anzac Day clash with Collingwood.

The key forward has been cleared of any symptoms following a nasty concussion sustained in Essendon's round four fixture against GWS.

GM of Performance Daniel McPherson says Weideman is looming to be available for selection this week.

"Sam's been cleared of any concussion symptoms," McPherson said.

"He'll train fully this week and will be available for selection provided he gets through the week with no issues."

In another positive return story, defender Zach Reid will feature at VFL level this weekend after recovering from a back injury.

"Zach will be available for selection this week," McPherson said.

"He's ticked off all the relevant markers we needed from him and we can’t wait to see him out there."

Young key position players Brandon Zerk-Thatcher and Harrison Jones will be monitored after injuring their ankles in Essendon's win over Melbourne on Saturday.

McPherson said both players will be given every chance to prove their fitness.

"'Jonesy' and 'Thatch' suffered ankle injuries on the weekend," he said.

"They'll be on modified programs early in the week, but the longer break gives them both a good chance to be available to play."

Kaine Baldwin will also make his return to the VFL after being cleared of any concussion symptoms.
