Essendon produced its most complete performance of 2023, with the Bombers registering their fourth win of the season in a 27-point victory over Melbourne.

The Dons rose to second on the ladder and set up a mouthwatering Anzac Day clash with Collingwood after toppling the highly-credentialed Demons in wet conditions at Adelaide Oval.

Utility Kyle Langford was nominated for round five's accolade after producing a brilliant 45-metre dribble snap in wet conditions.

But a new one may have emerged in Sam Draper and Andrew Phillips.

Being dubbed as 'Drillips' by Bombers fans, the pair produced an accumulative total of 39 hitouts, 29 disposals and five goals in a commanding and decisive display.

Merrett sanctioned, Dons to challenge

The only event souring Essendon's major win was skipper Zach Merrett being sanctioned for rough conduct on Melbourne's Tom Sparrow.

Merrett's one-game suspension will be challenged by the club at the tribunal tonight, Tuesday April 18.

With all 18 teams descending on South Australia, Gather Round was a roaring blockbuster.

Part of its success came down to the fan interactions at the Footy Festival Live Site and the numerous community clinics held around the city/state.
