Essendon high performance manager John Quinn said the Club feared the worst but would have to wait on scans to confirm the injury. Should the diagnosis be as expected, it is yet another cruel blow to Johns who defied the opinion of many to overcome chronic hip injuries to play AFL football.
On a positive note, Heath Hocking’s return from groin surgery was a success. Hocking spent time in the midfield, moved well and importantly finished the game without any soreness. Tom Hislop also made an excellent return from a shoulder injury and was among his side’s best players.
Tom Hislop and Heath Hocking have made pleasing returns from injury in a difficult day for Bendigo who were comprehensively beaten by a red hot Port Melbourne this afternoon. Bendigo were again well in the game at half time trailing Port Melbourne by one goal going into the second half but a seven goal to one third quarter from Port set up a comfortable victory, with the final margin getting out to 85 points.
