Melksham signs on
Essendon is pleased to confirm exciting young midfielder, Jake Melksham, has agreed to a new deal.
The emerging star will remain a Bomber until at least the end of the 2015 season after signing a two year contract extension.
Jake has enjoyed a breakout season in the Bombers midfield, and the 21 year-old said it was great to put pen to paper ahead of tomorrow night’s big clash against Carlton.
“Essendon showed their faith in me when they provided me with the opportunity to play AFL football and I wanted to repay that faith by signing on for a further two years,” Melksham said.
“This is a proud and strong football club. We have a great group of players, I couldn’t be happier to remain a Bomber.”
Senior coach, James Hird, said Jake’s impressive form in the midfield was a result of his tireless work ethic.
“It’s really pleasing to see Jake play some of his best football over the past four to five weeks and he’s starting to develop into the midfielder we know he can be,” Hird said.
“It’s pleasing in the sense that he has put so much time and effort into trying to become the best player he can possibly be.”
“We have full faith that if continues to work hard and train hard he can become a great player for this football club.”
Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro said Jake was a key part of the Club's push towards future success.
"Jake has had a breakout year in our midfield and is fast becoming an elite player of the competition," Dodoro said
"He has all the attributes to be a future leader of the Essendon Football Club and we are delighted he has shown this enormous faith in the direction of our team."
