Greater Western Sydney ruckman Jonathan Giles has nominated Essendon as his preferred new home in 2015 having requested a trade out of the Giants.
The 201cm big man has indicated his desire for further senior opportunities and will now look to join Essendon ahead of Thursday’s 2pm trade deadline.
Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro said the club would now work with the Giants to get a deal done.
“Jonathan has informed us he would like to play with the club next season and we will now work with Greater Western Sydney to get a deal done before Thursday's deadline,” Dodoro said.
The 26-year-old met with Essendon last week and was impressed with the opportunity the club could present him.
After four seasons on Port Adelaide's list without a game, Giles moved to the Giants where he has played 51 matches in three seasons.
He is also a proven forward option having kicked 39 goals in his 51 matches with the Giants.
“I’ve loved my time at the Giants but I spoke to Leon (coach Leon Cameron) at the end of the season and said I wanted to play more footy and would look at options elsewhere,’’ Giles told the Advertiser on Tuesday morning.
“He understood that so hopefully once I make my decision about where I want to play a trade can be organised.’
