“The current fundraising total has passed the $800,000 mark, with more than 3000 members and supporters generously pledging towards the project,” Robson said.

“But the reality is we need more funds to help ensure the Club is financially strong through this upcoming period.

“The Club can manage a reasonable amount of debt but we are calling on our supporters and members to dig deep and make a contribution to the Flight Plan.

“From now, we are counting down and need a further $1.2 million to reach our overall target in 2013 of $2 million from our members and supporters.

“We understand that it is a tough economic climate at the moment and we appreciate that not everyone will be able to contribute.

“We are asking our nearly 50,000 strong membership base to do whatever they can and make a donation - no matter how big or small - as it all counts towards securing the future of the Essendon Football Club”

The Federal and State Governments, AFL, Melbourne Airport, Coterie Groups and high net-worth supporters of the Club have also contributed nearly $19 million of the total $25.7 million project cost.
