One of the most talked about recruits of season 2001 - Paul Salmon - will make his return to AFL football this weekend. Salmon will put on the red and black guernsey against Fremantle in the round three match of the Wizard Cup. Salmon said prior to training this afternoon that he is looking forward to getting back out on the field after one year in retirement. ""I'm feeling partially nervous and partially looking forward to it,"" Salmon said. ""I feel great and I am going out with the single objective of enjoying myself this weekend. I know that is probably doing an injustice to the stature of the Wizard Cup - but for me it is to see if I can cover the ground again and to see if I can go the distance again. I am aiming to get in the right spots, as well as taking a few marks and getting a lot of the ball - I want to see what I can do as a ruckman again.""

Salmon has been training hard over the pre-season and his body has stood the test. The ruckman and former full forward has the advantage of not having been forced from the game through injury. ""I enjoy the training - the body has taken it really well. From a physical viewpoint I couldn't be much happier than I am now - I am ready to play a game of footy. I have to go out there now and see if I can find the leather. I know I can run, the body is ticking over well - so it is just whether I can go out there and find the Sherrin in match conditions,"" Salmon said.

""Hirdy says playing is like riding a bike but then everything is like riding a bike to him! With regard to the comeback it was Hirdy who ultimately convinced me from the players point of view that I might have something to offer and hopefully go one better this year. I have worked hard over the pre-season and I hope to have an impact with these guys. They seem convinced that I can and I am slowly coming around to the idea myself. I think I can play the role they have set up for me,"" the dual premiership player said. Essendon fans will be looking forward to seeing the 'comeback kid' run out for the Bombers on the weekend.
