HARVEY HAPPY AT WINDY HILL
Shane Harvey would naturally like to play alongside his older brother and Kangaroos star Brent. At least that was the case prior to last Sunday's National Draft. It is just over 24 hours after the draft and the youngster from the Northern Knights is over the moon that he has found his way to Essendon Football Club. Harvey was taken by Essendon with its first selection in the draft and selection 18 overall. ""I am absolutely rapt - I was sitting at home with family and friends when the call came through. I just started yelling out to everyone where I was going to play - it was unbelievable,"" Harvey said this afternoon.

A number of clubs had shown interest in Harvey including Brisbane, Adelaide, West Coast and Hawthorn. ""I'm really pleased that I am staying in Melbourne,"" Harvey said. ""Brent was at home with me and he said well done and that I was going to a really strong club. We celebrated for a while but I actually went to bed quite early because I wanted to get up and watch the soccer.""
As with all draftees, Harvey hasn't set his sights too high in season 2002. ""The most important thing for me is to build myself up physically during the pre-season,"" Harvey said. ""I suppose all players picked up in the draft would like to think they will make their senior debut the following year - that is my goal.""
Harvey finished third in the Northern Knights best and fairest last season - surprisingly the two players who finished ahead of him weren't drafted. ""I played mainly as a forward but also moved into the mid-field,"" Harvey said. ""Ultimately it is the mid-field where I would like to play. I like to get the football and run a bit.""
Harvey likes the way another former Northen Knights player goes about his football - that player being Blake Caracella. If Harvey can play that brand of football he will be a very useful Bomber in the coming seasons.
