Essendon Captain Dyson Heppell says his team will be ‘ready to go’ on ANZAC Day when the Bombers clash with rival Collingwood.

Heppell and his side will be looking to rebound after two straight losses. 

Coach John Worsfold said the side had “hit the wall a bit in the last couple of weeks”, but Heppell said the Bombers have put in a strong pre-season and will be fresh for the blockbuster clash.

“I really think that was just a passing comment from Woosh,” Heppell said.

“I think it was more in regards to Jobe who was quite fatigued in that last quarter [against Adelaide], just really a passing comment saying they were going to play him forward in the last quarter.

“He meant nothing by it – we’re at round four in the season, we’ve put in an enormous amount of work so the boys are ready to go, a good ten day break, freshen up and be right for Tuesday.”

With so many new faces in the Bombers line-up, Heppell expects the side to play it’s best football later in the season.

“We’re still building our chemistry as a group because a lot of us haven’t played together,” he said.

“Our fitness staff are amazing at managing our loads and making sure we’re primed ready to go week in, week out.

“From my point of view, we’re going to play our best footy in the later part of the year as we play more games of footy together.

“We’re going to get better every week, we’re going to adapt to the rigours of the AFL season again.

"Personally I feel ok – we’re only at round four, so we’re still building.”

On ANZAC Day last year, Heppell joined 85,081 other football fans in the grandstands of the MCG as his Bombers fell to the Pies.

But a year on and Heppell is set to lead his Club onto the field on one of football’s most anticipated days.

“I came to ANZAC Day last year and it hurt watching that one,” he said.

“It’s a very special day and a day I’m truly proud to play in, so I can’t wait to be out there on Tuesday – it’ll be a cracker.”
