Essendon players have commemorated those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in times of war by laying a wreath and observing a minute silence under the stone of remembrance at Lone Pine cemetery in Gallipoli.
Captain Jobe Watson and teammates Cale Hooker and Tom Bellchambers held the special ceremony on Remembrance Day this week.
Watson, who also recited the ode of remembrance before the minute silence, said the experience was incredibly humbling.
"To be here in Gallipoli on this special day is a very moving experience to be a part of," Watson said.
"Other than ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day is the most significant day of the year when it comes to recognising our service men and women.
"As a player it is a great privilege to play on ANZAC Day each year but to be here in Gallipoli has really opened my eyes to what war was really like, what the conditions were like and the sacrifices that our troops made."
The players are currently in Turkey visiting Gallipoli and the surrounding battlefields ahead of ANZAC Day next year and the 100-year commemoration of the landing at Gallipoli.
The club has partnered with Channel 9 to film a documentary of the trip and a segment for The Footy Show next year.
Antler, Essendon’s official travel partner, is proudly supporting the trip.
