The Essendon Football Club mourns the passing of lifelong supporter, 62-year member and 55-year volunteer Jack Feain.
Jack died on Wednesday aged 98.
Jack’s contribution to Essendon began in 1953 as a trainer with the club’s Under 19s when he provided general first aid to the players under the auspices of St John’s Ambulance Brigade.
In 1971, after almost 20 years service through St John’s, Jack began working directly with the club after completing a Sports Trainers qualification.
Jack did not miss an U19s game from 1953 until the competition was discontinued in 1991 except for a few weeks in 1968 when he was bedridden with pleurisy.
Essendon Football Club recognised Jack’s outstanding contribution with the awarding of life membership in 1987.
Jack continued his involvement at Essendon as a trainer, amongst other roles, taping ankles and shoulders, providing massage and delivering wise counsel. He continued his work at the club until retiring in 2008 aged 90.
Jack’s selflessness, commitment and dedication to the club embodied the finest aspect of volunteering.
The club extends its condolences to Jack’s daughters Kay and Marilyn, and extended family.
