Eastern Ranges, 186cm, 96kg, forward/midfielder
Initially overlooked for the Eastern Ranges squad, the powerful forward/midfielder emerged as a surprise packet, winning the TAC Cup club's goalkicking award. Averaged 17 possessions (nine contested) and almost two goals a game in 15 appearances, including 14 goals in his first three outings. A long kick, Begley is particularly good in one-on-one and contested situations, both in the air and on the ground.
Eastern Ranges Talent Manager Len Villani told Inside Football:
He's probably the bolter of the draft. We got a tip-off about him early in the year and put him in the team and he kicked 17 goals in his first three games. Since then he's just continued to grow. He's not a one-trick pony as a stay-at-home goalsquare type - really soft hands on the lead, good in the air one-on-one and then pretty good at ground level. He did a bit of a mini pre-season if you like this season and his skinfolds dropped from 80 to 55, but he is still a brute.
He has beautiful feel around the stoppages, so a really dynamic player and just powerful, and after what he's done in five months the last little question on him was the testing and he tested exceptionally. He can go through the midfield, has real power, real strength over the ball, has got a really good footy brain and makes good decisions.
