Dreamtime at the ‘G
In 2005, Essendon joined the AFL, Richmond Football Club, MCC and The Long Walk in establishing the annual Dreamtime at the ‘G game - a match dedicated to celebrating the role Australian Football has played in building bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australia.
The game has grown significantly - so much so that the AFL was encouraged to establish an annual Sir Doug Nicholls Round with the Dreamtime at the ‘G game as the flagship event.
Reconciliation Action Plan
The actions in Essendon’s plan for the period 2013-2015 focus on nurturing and developing the existing relationships and partnerships the club has with Wurundjeri land council and elders, Northern Territory communities in Wadeye and the Tiwi Islands, and The Long Walk.
The club wants to ensure that through its actions, plans and communication, that the richness and the diversity of Aboriginal cultures and people are reflected and represented in a way that honours and respects the partnerships and relationships formed along the way.
