Defender Mason Redman is free to play in Essendon's round 22 match against Gold Coast after having his rough conduct charge downgraded from medium to low impact.
The 24-year-old was facing a one-match suspension after the AFL Match Review Officer cited the dashing defender for a dangerous tackle on Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli in the fourth quarter of the Bombers' round 21 win.
After a deliberation which lasted for an hour, the AFL Tribunal found Redman's tackle to be low impact rather than medium, downgrading his sentence from a suspension to a $2000 fine with an early plea.
The jury gave high consideration to the Western Bulldogs' medical report which stated Bontempelli was assessed on the spot for head injuries but required no treatment, did not need to leave the field and no further investigations or treatment were required following the incident.
