Reserved off-field and known for his white-line fever on-field, 22-year-old Henry Slattery is becoming a favourite of the fans.

In 2008 they gave him a very respectable 6.22/10 report card, up from 5.9/10 the previous year.

Taken with pick 46 in the 2004 draft, the South Australian has reminded many fans of former Premiership captain, Gary O’Donnell, during his 52 games since debuting in 2005.

Here is what the fans thought of Slattery’s 2008 season:

Matt Milburn - Courage and determination personified. Can't say that many people would have gone so hard at the ball when Fev's knee stood in the way but Slats did it and that one selfless act lifted the Don's to a superb performance against Carlton. Slats steadily gets better year after year.

Bill Griffiths - Henry still gives away too many free kicks and seems to lack both pace and class. 2009 must be the year in which he establishes himself at AFL level.

Rod Ansell - Henry continues to be one of the silent achievers within the team. Takes on tough assignments each week and with his determination generally succeeds. Kicked a couple of goals this year and hopefully can get released from his tagging roles to allow him to develop some other dimensions of his game.

David Street - Certainly has plenty of courage. Needs to improve and work on his skills.

Alan Betts - Steady development as a tight backman. Accountable but still lacks more flair.

Cameron Gliese - Played very well as a small defender. Showed he can lock down those small forwards.

Ben White - Still finding his way as a small defender. Needs to be more accountable and really stick to his man. Works hard and I can see him improving in 2009.

Jan Di Pietro - Henry really started to use his strengths to his advantage this year. Love the courage and the commitment. Keep it up. Keep chasing them down!!

Max Rodwell - A good solid year from young Henry, not afraid to mix it, beat some fairly good players over the year and held his own on most other occasions. He has no sense of self preservation and puts his body in some unenviable positions but overall consistent.

Andrew Fisher - Slatts is a great role player. Needs to work on using the ball more as opposed to being a flat out stopper.

Joseph Attard - Henry Slattery had a good year. By no means was it great but he did his job. Earned respect when he rammed his head into Fev's knee. The Slatters will be needed in 2009.

Caleb Slade - Was as reliable as anyone in defence and showed plenty of when backing into a rampaging Brendan Fevola. Will be a gun in a couple of years, if he isn't already.

James Brown - Showed a lot of heart and courage. Really proved he could play this year. I had my doubts earlier on in his career, but he has well and truly got me on his side now. Love this bloke... can't wait to see more of him.

Peter Williams - Henry another gutsy effort this year. Keep working on your skills and decision making.

Sasha Andelkovic - Finished off well, has plenty of courage. Can see a permanent role for him down back as a shut down player. Still has improvement to go.
