Jason Laycock was instrumental in the victory and played his best game for the season. He created havoc for the Springvale defenders and kicked four goals in the first half and finished with five for the match. In his second game back from a shoulder reconstruction Ben Haynes was in great touch in the mid-field. ""Haynes has been fantastic for the team since returning. With two games under his belt his match fitness is nearly 100%. Cory McGrath was also good for us in the centre. He gave us first use of the ball and will be pushing for senior selection next week,"" Bendigo Bombers team manager Blair Hartley said.
Aaron Henneman found plenty of the football in his second game back. He provided a strong marking target at half-forward and spent time in the ruck in the second half. ""Henneman used his height and strength to give us a marking target. Although he only finished with one goal he helped set up a number of others. It is also good for the younger guys having an experienced player like him in the team,"" Hartley said.
Paul Barnard was relegated to the VFL side this week and as expected he put in a fantastic four-quarter performance. He worked tirelessly all game and the hit-out will greatly benefit his match fitness after spending time on the bench in the seniors in recent weeks. His performance will put him in contention for senior selection this week. Another positive for the team was the form of Simon O'Keefe in the ruck. The 19-year-old positioned himself well at stoppages giving his team first use of the ball and provided a marking option around the ground.
Bendigo's next challenge is against Werribee this Saturday. The team will be aiming to win its fourth successive match and make further in roads to the top eight.
