Star midfielder Zach Merrett has earned a perfect 10 in the AFL Coaches Association's AFL Champion Player Award, with the Bombers claiming a clean sweep of votes in their 63-point win over Adelaide on Friday night.
Merrett received maximum praise from senior coach Ben Rutten and his counterpart Matthew Nicks, gathering match-highs in disposals (35) and contested possessions (25).
Defender Mason Redman was awarded his highest votes (five) for the season after a dominant display in the backline. The 23-year-old produced a career-high 25-disposal, 11-mark performance in a game where Essendon curtailed Adelaide to their lowest ever score of 21 points.
Forward Jake Stringer rose to third in the Bombers' leaderboard after securing four votes with a 23-disposal, six-tackle game.
First-year forward Archie Perkins enjoyed his best game in the red and black, earning four votes with a three-goal, 18-disposal effort. Perkins dazzled with his composure and pressure, earning two free-kicks in the Dons' forward-50 with impressive tackles.
Defenders Nick Hind and Jordan Ridley earned three votes each for their solid games in defence, while small forward Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti rounded out the Dons' coaches' votes with one.
