Essendon senior coach Ben Rutten and his Geelong counterpart Chris Scott have awarded Darcy Parish eight votes for round 16 in the AFL Coaches Association's AFL Champion Player Award.
Parish placed second to Cats midfielder Patrick Dangerfield (nine votes) for the match after accumulating 43 disposals, claiming the Tom Wills medal for the Powercor Country Festival game’s best on ground.
The performance fell one short of Parish’s record-breaking effort in round 12’s Dreamtime in Perth match, where the 23-year-old gathered 44 possessions.
Parish sits fifth in the overall standings, 13 votes off leader Marcus Bontempelli.
Defender Jordan Ridley was the only other Don to feature, receiving two votes for his composed performance down back.
The reigning Crichton medallist didn’t stuff the stat sheet with 17 disposals and six marks, but his trademark dependability and calmness in one on one contests drew praise from both senior coaches.
