Essendon could welcome back a number of key players this week as the club’s injury toll looks set to somewhat ease.

General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said Tayte Pears, Jason Winderlich and Elliott Kavanagh are all in line for senior selection ahead of Friday night’s blockbuster clash against an in-form Hawthorn side.

“The one thing that we try to do every week is maintain our composure and outlook, so we can celebrate a win and commiserate a loss but by Monday we start looking ahead,” Hamilton said.

“There were a number of guys who played exceptionally well in the VFL on the weekend, and Tayte Pears was one of them.

“Both he and Jason (Winderlich) have now played three games in the reserves at a really good level.

“Elliot Kavanagh played very well too, so I would assume that as long as everyone is convinced that they are right to go with their fitness, they will be in line for selection,” he said.

Hamilton also highlighted the long-awaited return of Brent Prismall, who lined up for Bendigo in his first football outing since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in July last year.

“It has been a long, hard road for Brent and it is almost twelve months to the day that he did his knee,” Hamilton said.

“Since then he has obviously had hamstring problems, but we were very pleased to see him back out on the field in the VFL on the weekend.

“Brent played a very solid game and we will be easing him back in to match-play, but I know he is very happy to be out there again,” he said.

Key forward Michael Hurley looks set to return for Essendon’s key clash against Adelaide next week, after progressing well during his recovery from a hamstring injury.

“Michael is doing extremely well with his recovery and while he has been ruled out of this week's game, we hope he is a good chance for the following week against Adelaide,” Hamilton said.

“Both he, David Zaharakis and Paddy Ryder have all been very impressive over the last two weeks in their recovery and modified training programs.”

Despite coming off a 67-point loss to Geelong, Hamilton said the Bombers were raring to go ahead of Friday night’s blockbuster clash at Etihad Stadium.

“It is a big game for us in some many ways – we acknowledge the Clash for Cancer game and know that we have a massive task at hand in playing Hawthorn, who are in really good form at the moment.”
