Essendon Football Club today marked a new record in club memberships with 43,718 members signed up in 2011. The figure is 6501 members up on the same time last year.
The previous Essendon membership record of 43,635 members was set in 2008.
Essendon CEO Ian Robson said the club was delighted with the new record and hopes the club can grow their tally to over 50,000 members in 2011.
“The club has obviously gone through a significant period of change over the past six months and we are very pleased that so many Essendon supporters want to be part of the new Essendon era, pledging their support of our journey by purchasing a membership,” Robson said.
“The result is a credit to our loyal supporters and also the hard work of the players and administration of the Essendon Football Club.
“A 50,000 membership base should be the expectation of any AFL club and we know we still have little way to go to achieving this. Memberships underpin our club and we need all of our supporters to stand as one in 2011 to put Essendon in the best possible position to deliver future success.”
