In last week’s poll we asked if the Bomber’s Round 3 win against Carlton was the ‘best’ win in the past five years, 75.31% of the fans said 'yes' and 24.69% voted 'no'.
Here’s what some of the fans had to say:
Joseph Attard from Taylors Hill says: Couldn't be more satisfying beating the Blues after they were over-hyped to death, literally!
Ashley Robertson from Australia says: It was the best win ever!
Andrew from Altona Meadows says: It depends on what you define as 'best'. I think considering the young squad, injured key players and with Lloydy under scrutiny from the media; this win was probably the best in recent years. There's been plenty of memorable and close games in recent years, but against a cocky and undefeated Carlton, does it get any better? No sir!
Paul S from Sydney, NSW says: Sorry but the one point win over the Eagles at Docklands in 2007 has to be the best in the last 5 years. We were gone for all money at quarter time in that game against far classier opposition. Vintage Hird, Hille and Fletcher. I kept the ticket as it was the all time come back!
Dennis Green from Bayswater, VIC says: The game against the Eagles where Hirdy hugged the fan after kicking the winning goal is a fantastic memory. However, this victory over Carlton is possibly more significant in terms of the many young players who showed the first inkling, as a team, that the Bombers are moving in the right direction. This win was a major statement from a team & club on the rise!
Stephen McAteer from Niddrie says: For me it's the win over Collingwood in 2006. I was driving during the game (delivering pizzas) and listening on the radio. When the final siren went, I dead-set nearly crashed the car. In a year with only 3 wins, that was something special.
Jeremy Chau from Victoria says: That win was a great one however I believe James Hird scoring a blinder against West Coast in 2004 Round 3 was much better as he was under so much pressure!
Luke from Altona Meadows says: Definately the best win for sometime. I was at the game, I honestly thought I’d be leaving at half time the way we started (not a sore loser, just hate carlton) but the boys were fantastic. Once the running game got going and with Lloyd taking some great strong grabs, Watson getting lots of hard balls- we pressured them like I haven’t seen for a long time. The boys really wanted that game, it really showed with the celebrations afterwards.
Valerie Loweth from Keilor says: It was a fantastic win against Carlton and it was so good to see our captain back in his true form again. I think we are starting to see the building of a future premiership team so long as we can stay relatively injury free. Well done to all the team- you did us proud!!!!
Maranatha from Ferntree Gully, Melbourne, Vic says: Certainly the best win in five years, particularly as we've experienced some lean times after 2004 - the team's last finals appearance. Hopefully things will improve now moving forwards. Also, the win over the Blues was a good start and a momentum-builder after the Freo win and things can only get better from here.
Dean Walton from Warrandyte says: Sad that beating Carlton by a few points is the best win in 5 years. Anzac Day clashes are the most important outside Finals - every other win is just good. What about the West coast game at Telstra dome when Hirdy turned it on and hugged the dude in the stand - that is my most memorable non important win. Next Lloydy will be celebrating getting the best car park next to the lift at Etihad!
