Kevin told the Club he expects to be travelling overseas with his wife Geraldine at the time of the event.
""We would have loved to have Kevin involved and, naturally, the Club's invite to Kevin and his wife stands should his itinerary alter,"" Essendon chief of Commercial Operations, Mark Anderson, said today.
""The Crichton Medal was not planned as a farewell event – it is the Club’s best & fairest – but it would have provided us with another opportunity to again recognise his enormous contribution.
""We will still recognise his outstanding efforts on the night but the farewells that we will all remember are the final two weeks of the season which gave Essendon fans some unforgettable memories.
""James Hird will be at the Crichton Medal and his career will be celebrated as we have always done with retiring players.
AFL Chief Executive Andrew Demetriou today announced triple Essendon premiership player Jack Jones and Geelong pair Joe Sellwood and Wayne Closter would be inducted into the AFL 200 Club at tomorrow night's annual dinner, to be held in the Jim Stynes Room at the MCG, after honorary membership for the trio was approved.
