Essendon Football Club will find out a lot about its players and its supporters at The Dome this Saturday night, according to Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy. ""We need our players and our fans to stand up and be counted this Saturday night – it is a very important game for us,"" Sheedy said.

The Bombers have 10 players unavailable for selection this weekend because of injury. And some big names are among them – including deputy vice captains Jason Johnson and Mark Johnson .

""These are the sort of games the jacket-waving tradition has been built on. We want the real Essendon to turn up this weekend – players desperate to turn around our start to the season and proud fans, armed with their jackets ready to make The Dome a very uncomfortable place to be for West Coast,"" Sheedy said.

""We think our form is better than it might have appeared last week. We had some opportunities in the first quarter that we didn’t take advantage of – we could have kicked six or seven goals and that would have put us right in the game.

""We are not sure how much to read into the first two weeks. We were very poor against Port Adelaide but much better last week. And while we have lost two games we think we have been beaten by sides that are a very big chance of finishing in the top half of the eight.""

""This is the sort of game that can really make a season – even this early. To win a game that you aren’t expected to win can give the whole club a real lift. We’re sure our supporters know how important this game is and I’m asking them to get along this weekend and help us get our season back on track.""
