Essendon Football Club will again incorporate a yellow armband into their guernsey in support of the 2008 Call to Arms campaign and the annual Clash for Cancer match this weekend.
The game and the Call to Arms campaign aim to raise funds and awareness for mens' cancers.
The 22 matchday guernseys will then be auctioned after the match, with all funds raised going to the Call to Arms campaign.
""We expect the Call to Arms campaign alone to raise in excess of $200,000 this year which is a great result. It was such a success in Victoria last year we decided to take it national this year and it has been very well received,"" Essendon Football Club general manager, Media and Community Simon Matthews said.
""Together with the fundraising around this weekend's game and the Relay for Life we held earlier this year, Essendon will have played a significant part in again raising in excess of $500,00 for cancer research.""
Almost 10,000 teams and more than 190,000 sportspeople and supporters across Australia have taken part in the 2008 Call to Arms campaign.
""We would like to thank everyone who has got involved in this year's Call to Arms activities. It wouldn't be the success it is without the thousands of dedicated volunteers at sporting clubs that take the time to get involved. They should all be congratulated,"" Matthews said.
Clash for Cancer volunteers dressed in yellow will be distributing yellow armbands to fans at the weekend’s match in exchange for donations. This will take place before the game and at half time.
There will be a mascot race prior to the match which will also raise funds for the Cancer Council and will feature Armor All's Arnie, Sumo Salads' Sumo Man, M&Ms' Miss Green and Yellow's Chicken Boy.
All funds raised through Clash for Cancer will support lifesaving cancer research, education programs to help men reduce their cancer risk, and support services for men in times of great need.
