The 25-year-old said the players have benefited from a tough pre-season training regime ahead of their trip to play West Coast and Fremantle on Sunday.
“We have been working hard lifting the weights, running and just working on our game trying to improve on last year,” Monfries said.
“Like most teams are, we are just trying to improve every year and we have managed to get a lot of kilometres into our legs this pre-season.
“Everyone will get to see us this Sunday against Fremantle and West Coast in Perth so I think people will notice some guy’s body shapes have changed a bit.”
Monfries said third year players Travis Colyer and Jake Melksham have gained a lot - especially on a physical level - from the gruelling pre-season campaign.
“Jake and Trav are the two that have put on some decent size this summer,” Monfries told SEN radio.
“I think he (Melksham) has put on nearly five or six kilos over the summer, so I think people will notice he has a very different body shape when they see him on Sunday.”
Monfries said 18-year-old Elliott Kavanagh, who will be looking for a spot in the side this Sunday, has been a standout among the off-season recruits at training.
“Elliott has stood out so far, we had a few hit outs last Friday and the Friday before and Elliott has looked really good,” he said.
