Essendon will once again take a near full strength side into Saturday’s Round 4 NAB Cup clash with Brisbane at Visy Park.

General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said the match was another important step in the Bombers preparation for round one.

“We are really pleased with the progress of the squad over the pre-season but now we are getting close to the time that really matters,” Hamilton told Bomber TV.

“We played a pretty good side last week, probably as good a side as we could pick and we will do the same this week.

“It’s going to be very tight for a spot come round one so guys are going to want to play well, guys are going to want to put their hand up and really do the team things. ”

The Bombers avoided any injury concerns during the two point win over Sydney on Friday night despite a number of players leaving the field with cramping issues.

Hamilton said player cramping was common during the early stage of the year.

“It is not unusual and you talk to the players and they often cramp in their first few games,” he said.

“We had eight players play their first game of the season on the weekend and it is something we want to make sure we get right going forward but it is not going to be something that holds us up at all.”

Defender Nathan Lovett-Murray is likely to spend one more week on the sidelines before being in line for round one selection.

“Nathan has a calf strain, it’s a minor one, but he has a history of them from last year so we want to make sure we get this one right,” Hamilton said.

Both Brent Prismall and Scott Gumbleton remain on the long term injury list but are progressing well in their rehabilitation programs.
