Steinberg, who impressed as a promising forward with the Bendigo Bombers in his first year, said he was pushing for a senior debut next season, inspiring him to work harder on the training track.
“During the year with Bendigo, I tried my best every week and I think I improved a lot just having the experience at Essendon, so that’s all you can really ask for,” Steinberg said.
“With Bendigo, I was probably disappointed with how we finished the year, because I thought we were probably a better side than what we ended up on the ladder.
“Personally, I want to get bigger and stronger, and I am really hoping to build on that during the pre-season. I think when we get stuck in to the season, I really just want to play good, consistent football and be a good team mate.”
Steinberg, who was selected with pick 31 in the 2010 AFL Draft, said he was preparing to put in a hardworking pre-season campaign under new high performance coach Dean Robinson.
“It’s been pretty good so far, and the new head of fitness Dean Robinson has us going through our paces. But the body is feeling really good, and I am really looking forward to getting a full pre-season under my belt,” he said.
“Dean’s main sort of lessons are – ‘work hard and you’ll reap the benefits’. I think there will be a lot of hard work across the board in the next couple of months.”
“Basically, at the moment, we’re sleeping and eating a lot,” Steinberg said.
“But overall - as the younger guys - we’re all growing up and getting used to the demands of the pre-season so it will be interesting to see where we are in the next couple of months. I am definitely looking forward to the upcoming season and ready to go.""
