The AFL has approved for champion Essendon forward, Scott Lucas, to be placed on the long-term injury list, as he recovers from a Grade 3 tear of the Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL), which means he is ineligible to play until Round 10.

Chief Operating Officer, Travis Auld, said the club will not be promoting a rookie at this point but can do so at any time during that period.

“Given Scott's injury will span over 8 weeks, it's sensible to place him on the long-term injury list in case there is an opportunity down the track to promote a rookie,” Auld said

“There is no requirement to promote a rookie - that decision will be made by the coaches - but Scott’s injury does create an opportunity for a rookie to be promoted if his form warrants it.”
