Fresh from a four-goal performance for the Bendigo Bombers, Essendon youngster, Darcy Daniher, will make his AFL debut on Sunday after being named in the side to take on Port Adelaide at the Dome.
The son of Anthony Daniher, Darcy was taken under the father-son rule with selection 39 of the 2007 NAB AFL National draft.
Team manager, David Calthorpe, believes Daniher deserves his chance to show the competition what he can offer.
“Since returning from shoulder surgery in the pre-season, Darcy has been one of our best performed key position players for Bendigo and he deserves this opportunity to show his talent at senior level,” he said.
“He obviously comes from a great football family and he has certain traits that both his father and uncles exhibited as players for the club.
“Like them, he is a hard competitor - especially for someone so young.""
Calthorpe also praised Daniher's commitment and the way he goes about his football.
""Darcy has a great work ethic and is deceptively quick for his size,"" he said.
""He is also strong overhead so he will complement the side whether he plays forward or back.
“The four Daniher brothers played a major role at this club and the debut of Darcy on Sunday will continue a great legacy for Essendon and for the family.”
Essendon Football Club aims to be genuine when it comes to making a difference in the community. When it came to planning the Club’s event calendar in 2008, it was decided the time was right for our premier event to live and breathe this commitment and so the Red and Black Ball became the Dreamtime Ball.
