After promising so much last year, Courtenay Dempsey’s career took an awkward turn this season. The lightening-quick midfielder battled to make more than one senior appearance as injuries kept him out of the team.

However, in the game he did play for the year, Dempsey’s speed and creativity proved a valuable asset to the Essendon line-up.

What some of the Essendon fans had to say:

He has great potential. A big summer in the gym and this boy could explode in ‘08. (David Yacoub)

Showed extreme pace and evasive ability but really needs to work on his disposal. (Geoffrey Hope)

Courtenay is a very exciting prospect and a real key to our future.  (Alex Fair)

Dempsey was electrifying in his one and only game this year. Hopefully he can get the body right and we can see Dempsey, Lovett and Davey all in the one team! (Dan Lennon)

Still very young but showed plenty of promise in his one appearance in 2007. Dempsey showed a confidence he lacked in 2006 and really took it to the Richmond boys. However Courtenay needs to work on strengthening those hamstrings to allow him to play games more regularly. (Jakob Sluiter)
